What Our Guests Say

We spent 9 days at The Palms and had a wonderful time. We had previously stayed in the Plantation four times. And this was probably our best experience, although the previous times had been beach front !

This place has more bang for the buck than any place in the Plantation. The views from the ocean side of the house do not do it justice. Much closer than you think.

We had a wonderful time at The Palms. We saw lots of dolphins and millions of seashells! We all had lots of fun! I went shopping and swam in the ocean. We built sand castles and rode the waves! We all thank you for the most wonderful time in St. George Island Florida.
Love,

- Emily K.

The Palms Vacation House is located in St. George PlantationSt. George Plantation on the map of the island

St. George Plantation is located on the East side of St. George Island.  It is 24 hours, private, gated community.  To enter it you either need to be an owner, guest of an owner, or customer of a rental agency which manages houses in St. George Plantation.

The Plantation was incorporated in 1977.  When someone purchases land or a house in St. George Plantation, he has to join St. George Plantation Owners Association (SGPOA).   SGPOA is governed by about 40-page long covenants document.  SGPOA membership is around $3,000/year for owners of a house.  Landowners, without a house, pay less.  This membership fee goes towards things like maintainace of roads, community swimming pool, few tennis courts, board walks leading to the beach, guards house, clubhouse, payment of salaries of security guards and small local staff.  SGPOA has elected board of directors, and architectural committee.  Any major alternations to houses, construction of new houses, major landscaping projects, and installation of swimming pools have to be approved by Architectural Committee.  The role and goals of Architectural Committee is described in SGPOA covenants document.  Both, the board and Architectural Committee hold regular meetings, and some of their meeting minutes are made available online for download by members of SGPOA.

St. George Plantation is actually somewhat joined with number of other, smaller associations that encompass their own land and members.  SGPOA itself consists of about 800 lots.  Bayside association is located in the northwest part of the Plantation and consists of 9 lots.  Bluffs association consists of 10 lots.  Bob Sikes Cut Association consists of almost 70 lots, and 22 undeveloped acres of land.  Pelican Point association has 26 lots.  Resort Village Owners Association has about 57 lots and 12 condos.  Each of these smaller associations have agreements with SGPOA where some of them pay part of association fees, have some voting rights in SGPOA matters, and some have their own architectural covenants.

St. George Plantation also has an airport, identified by FAA as KF47.  Anyone can use it as long as they pay landing and parking fees.  However, visitors are not authorized to enter premises of the Plantation unless they are owners, guests, or have other prior authorization.  Visitors might be able to call security guards for assistance in getting outside of the Plantation.

Currently, plantation is finishing construction of its new clubhouse. Image of a new club house in St. George PlantationBellow are drawing of how it will look.

SGPOA has its own website with some additional information.
